“The mission of the Detention Center is to protect the citizens of Comanche County by properly detaining all persons entrusted to our custody in a safe, secure, and humane manner.”

On September 1, 2003, under the direction of the Comanche County Facilities Authority, the Comanche County Detention Center took over operations of the old Comanche County Jail. After months of training new officers and completing work on the new state-of-the-art facility, the Detention Center housed its first inmate by mid-January of the following year.

Since then, this state-of-the-art facility has housed inmates from local, state, and federal agencies. Its well trained staff strives to provide a safe and secure facility; its administration strives to act as good stewards to the taxpayers of Comanche County in their financial dealings; its numerous facility programs strive to reduce the recidivism rate within the county. The Comanche County Detention Center is setting many standards for detention centers across the state and beyond.

The Detention Center is committed to hiring and training the best possible candidates for Detention Officers. They are committed to training the staff for every resource needed to provide the community and the inmates with a professionally operated facility.  All Detention Officers undergo over 180 hours of specialized training to include: first aid/CPR, security procedures, self-defense, chemical agents, communication skills, riot control, hostage situations, firearms, and cultural diversity. Most staff members have also met the requirements to be certified by the Oklahoma Jail Administration as a Detention Officer.

The Detention Center has trained, and continues to utilize, a Correctional Emergency Response Team (CERT); they are used for facility searches, disturbances, hostage situations, or any other emergency that may jeopardize the safety of the staff, inmates, or general public.
