NOTICE UNDER THE

AMERICANS WITH

DISABILITIES ACT

 

In accordance with the requirements of title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA"), Comanche County will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.

 

Employment: Comanche County does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under title I of the ADA.

 

Effective Communication: Comanche County will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in Comanche County’s programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

 

Accessibility of Physical Facilities or Court Buildings: Assistance relating to the accessibility of physical facilities or court buildings of the district courts and other offices (for example, Comanche County Courthouse) should be directed to the Board of County Commissioners, 580-353-3717, 3rd Floor, Room 303.

 

Accessibility of Programs, Services, or Activities of a District Court: Assistance pertaining to access to services of a District Court should contact the Court Clerk, 580-355-4017, 5th Floor, Room 504.

 

Requests for Accommodations: Requests for an interpreter under the Oklahoma Legal Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Act (63 O.S. §§ 2407 et seq) should contact the Court Clerk, 580-355-4017, 5th Floor, Room 504, the judge assigned to the case in which accommodation is needed, or the chief judge of the district.

 

Modifications to Policies and Procedures: Comanche County will make all reasonable modifications to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in Comanche County offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

 

The ADA does not require Comanche County to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its business, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

Complaints that courtrooms of Comanche County Courthouse are not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the Court Clerk, 580-355-4017, 5th Floor, Room 504. Comanche County will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
