First Ozone Watch Day of the Season Called for Tomorrow

Government entities are requested to modify their work procedures on Thursday, June 28, 2012. This

is the First Air Quality Alert Day of the Ozone Alert Season, which runs from May to September.

Our region is perilously close to exceeding federal standards for ozone. There is great concern over the
air quality readings to date for the area due to persistent weather conditions of hot temperatures and
little wind combined with vehicle emissions, petroleum distillate vapors, and solvent fumes. It is
imperative that government entities take steps to reduce the ozone level and to set the example for
residents - or warnings will be disregarded by all.

Comanche Nation Chairman Declares State of Emergency; Opens Cooling Stations for Public

Due to the extreme heat conditions, Comanche Nation Chairman, Wallace Coffey, has declared a State of Emergency, and has opened a Cooling Station today at the Comanche Nation Complex Conference Room, seven miles north of Lawton, Okla., Medicine Park Exit. The Cooling Station will provide Comanche tribal members and the general public a place to rest, and find relief from the heat. Light snacks and water will be provided.

“We are here for the people,” said Coffey. “If we have people in need, we will help them.”

The Cooling Station is assisted by the American Red Cross, and staffed by the Comanche Nation Emergency Management Team and tribal employees.
