POSITION: CCRJDC Custodial Worker / Grounds Keeper

ANNUAL SALARY: $22,880.00 Annual + Benefit Package

 

NATURE OF WORK:


Will work under direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor. Maintains building to keep in good working condition; maintains building interior/exterior as clean and sanitary; ensures that the exterior of the building remains in good repair and orderly; responsible for minor repairs to building interior and exterior; maintains lawn, flowers, trees, parking lots, and grounds.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


- Maintain building and grounds.

- Assist with minor repairs to the building to include plumbing, electrical, painting, and woodworking.

- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.

- Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ash trays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs.

- Refill restroom dispensers, chemical closets, and inventory storage room chemicals.

- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

- Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets.

- Clean and keep sanitary all assigned areas of the building, such as: floors, walls, windows, restrooms, etc.

- Maintain major appliance equipment (i.e. heating, air conditioning units, etc.), in accordance with their user manuals.

- Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

- Assist with scheduled weekly/monthly/annual facility tests.

- Maintain an inventory of supplies for replacement items such as toiletry supplies/bathroom supplies.

- Empty trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.

- Handle recycling material.

- Assist with inventory control and security.

- Safely operate and help maintain all vehicles and other job-related equipment.

- May oversee and/or assist with snow removal activities.

- Maintain the exterior appearance of the building to include painting and repair.

- Maintain general appearance of the grounds, which includes the lawn, trees, and landscape.

- Make weekly checks of all security devices.

- Attend to emergencies when necessary.

- Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.

- Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, first aid, CPR, and working relationships.

- May have to work some weekends or evenings as required.

- Perform other such duties as needed and required by the Superintendent.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


Work is performed in a Juvenile Detention Facility, which may involve intense concentration on activities going on around one's location on a constant basis throughout the entire work shift. Work occasionally involves exposure to potentially hazardous situations; may be required to physically subdue hostile individuals. Must be able to work during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:


High School diploma or G.E.D. and minimum of one (1) year experience performing custodial duties; must have no felony convictions; applicants must have an unrestricted Oklahoma driver's license upon appointment, must be a U.S. citizen, must be 21 years of age; must successfully complete a background check, as well as medical (if not a current CCRJDC staff member), written, and oral examinations prior to being appointed; must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards; must successfully complete training requirements.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, direction following, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing, and innovation. Handle recycling materials. Call in work orders. Assist with inventory control and security. Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment.

 

Ability to: Work under direct supervision of another; communicate with vendors; mediate difficult situations; use effective custody and control procedures; operate a personal computer and specialized software applications.

Skills in: Light plumbing skills; electrical background; writing and completing accurate reports and observations; operating specialized keys, locks, and restraint equipment; interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
